February start for 2022 Camogie season

Tipperary’s inter-county camogie knows their fixtures plan for 2022 after it was confirmed for all grades last week.

Billy Mullaney’s senior team have been drawn in a group with All-Ireland champions Galway, Offaly, Down and Dublin in the Littlewoods Ireland Division 1 league which begins on the weekend of the 5th/6th February.

Group 2 sees Cork, Kilkenny, Limerick, and Clare battle it out. The top team from each group will go straight through to a league final fixed for the weekend of 9th/10th April.

Twelve counties will battle it out in 2022 in the All-Ireland Senior Championship - Antrim, Clare, Cork, Down, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Offaly, Waterford, Wexford, and Tipperary. The four semi-finalists from 2021 Galway, Cork, Kilkenny, and Tipperary will be seeded, two per group of six teams each.

The All-Ireland Championship begins on the weekend of 21st/22nd May with the top team in each group progressing to semi-finals while the second and third placed teams in each group going into quarter finals.

Having reached the semi-finals in each of the last four years, Tipperary will be hoping 2022 will be the year the team can make the breakthrough and reach the final which is fixed for the first weekend in August.

Newly appointed Tipperary junior manager Ray Delaney will see his side begin their campaign also on the weekend of 5th/6th February.

The Division 2 League has three groups – 2 groups of 4 and 1 group of 5. Tipperary have been drawn in group 2 with Waterford, Westmeath, and Kilkenny. Wexford, Meath, Derry, Cork, and Kildare make up group 1 while group 3 comprises of Antrim, Kerry, Galway, and Laois.

The first placed team in each group go into a draw with two teams picked out will go into semi-finals with one team into the quarter finals where they will be joined by the second placed team in each group.

Having been relegated from Intermediate last year, Tipperary will be eager to go well in next year’s All-Ireland Junior Championship where the groups have yet to be drawn but there will be thirteen teams, including Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Clare, Down, Laois, Limerick, Mayo, Meath, Offaly, Roscommon, and Waterford.

They will be divided into two groups, 1 group of 6 and 1 group of 7 where Tipperary will be seeded along with the 2021 junior semi-finalists Armagh, Roscommon, and Clare. There will be two seeded teams per group and the top two teams in each group progress to semi-finals. The championship begins on the weekend of the 21st-22nd May with the final fixed for the first weekend of August.

In the Tesco Minor ‘A’ Championship, Tipperary find themselves in a group along with Limerick, Wexford, and Antrim. The first round of the championship begins on weekend 5th/6th February with the final fixed for the weekend of 26th/27th March.
