Industrial boost for mid-west

Limerick and North Tipp TD, Kieran O’Donnell has welcomed key milestones for the new IDA Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) in the National Technology Park. It follows the appointment of Domhnall Carroll, former Country Lead in Digital Industries at Siemens, as AMC’s new Site Director and the establishment of a strategic partnership with ABB Limited as AMC’s key technology partner for the delivery of a world-class Digital Factory solution for manufacturing clients. This new world-class industry-led centre will enable Irish based FDI and indigenous manufacturers accelerate the adoption of digital technologies into their factory floors and supply chains, allowing them to address real-world challenges and drive competitiveness.

This 30,000sq ft new AMC which is currently under construction and due to be completed in mid-next year, is a two-storey building providing a state-of-the-art facility for both indigenous and multinational companies, including a digital factory to develop new technologies. €4 million was allocated by Government in Budget 2022 for the completion of this new AMC.

“I welcome key milestones for the new IDA Advanced Manufacturing Centre(AMC) in the National Technology Park, with the appointment of Domhnall Carroll, Former Country Lead in Digital Industries at Siemens, as AMC’s new Site Director and the establishment of a strategic partnership with ABB Limited as AMC’s key technology partner for the delivery of a world-class Digital Factory solution for manufacturing clients.

“This follows the €4m allocated by Government in Budget 2022 to the IDA for the completion of this new AMC currently under construction in the National Technology Park, Castletroy. This centre is due to be completed by mid-next year.

“This new two-storey Advanced Manufacturing Centre will provide a state-of-the-art facility for both indigenous and multinational companies to develop new technologies.

“The launch of the Advanced Manufacturing Centre will enable increased collaboration between Irish based FDIs and SMEs as they trial, adopt, deploy and scale the new technologies supported by the key component of the AMC, the “Digital Factory”.

“The AMC is a strategic national priority and is at the forefront of the IDA’s Driving Recovery and Sustainable Growth (2021-2024) strategy, the Government’s Industry 4.0 (2020-2025) strategy and is a key priority in the National Development Plan.

“The IDA have been involved in bringing many FDI industries and jobs to Limerick and the Mid-West area over many years. These FDIs have made a major contribution to the creation of much needed jobs and economic development here.

“This centre will strongly contribute to the creation of jobs in the Irish manufacturing sector here in Limerick and the region and will support the enhancement of Ireland's value proposition for manufacturing investments.

“I commend the work by the IDA in ensuring vital building infrastructure like this new Advanced Manufacturing Centre is on stream to accommodate indigenous Irish companies and FDI’s in developing new tech as well as the supporting existing companies here in Limerick and the Mid-West."
