M7 to re-open following collisions

It's hoped the M7 westbound road to Limerick will re-open later today after the emergency services dealt with multiple collisions on the Limerick-Dublin motorway on Monday.

On Monday just after 12 noon, two incidents occurred within minutes of each other both eastbound and westbound between J27 Birdhill and J28 Castletroy resulting in the closure of the roads for a while causing long tailbacks for motorists.

Then at 1.30pm a collision occurred between J26 Nenagh and J27 - Birdhill (west) caused a further road closure though this was later lifted. A crash eastbound between Nenagh and Birdhill was cleared while there were collisions on the M7 between Roscrea and Moneygall.

A woman is in a critical condition at University Hospital Limerick after she was injured in the multi-vehicle pile up on the M7 motorway, near Nenagh on Monday. Two others were injured, but not seriously, after a truck and a number of cars were involved in collisions.
