Templederry impress in reaching last four

County Senior Hurling - Seamus O Riain Cup Quarter Final

Templederry Kenyons 3-28

Gortnahoe/Glengoole 2-15

Templederry Kenyons easily accounted for Gortnahoe-Glengoole with a blistering display of scoring which proved to be far too much for their opposition in this Seamus O Riain Cup quarter-final in Templetuohy on Sunday.

Huge scores were tallied throughout the team but none more so than the impressive figures of Éanna Murray (0-11), Adrian Ryan (0-5) and Sean Ryan (0-5), who were all at their peak in an excellent display from the North men.

In all reality, the game was over as a contest at half-time with the Kenyons proving far too much for Gortnahoe, with only three wides in the half after taking a 2-16 to 1-10 lead at the break.

A last gasp goal from Darragh Maher put a slight sheen on the score-line for Gortnahoe, but they were brought firmly back down to earth after impressing in the group stages.

This is a big statement from Templederry and when you consider that they started without key players Christy Coughlan and Brian Stapleton, they are going to take beating from here as they look forward to the semi-final stages.

Indeed, Templederry looked like a team who were eager to get back into their groove after losing to Silvermines in their last group game, and they set about righting that wrong in blistering fashion early on, taking a 0-4 to nil lead after five minutes through points from Eanna Murray (3) and Gearoid Ryan.

Gortnahoe needed to find a foothold quickly and centre-back Martin Barnaville launched over a beauty from distance soon after, but the Kenyons were looking like poetry in motion as big Padraig O'Leary latched onto a loose ball inside the 21 before finishing low to the back of the net.

The game was slipping away from Gortnahoe, even at this early stage, but they stemmed the Templederry tidal wave somewhat a minute later, when Adrian Maher lashed at a hopping ball on the 21 to the surprise of Tim McCutcheon and it flew into the bottom corner.

That score didn't do much for the flow of the game, as Templederry continued their dominance, with Matthew Hogan's rebounded goal in the eleventh minute after a great save from Timmy Dunne moved the north men into a seven-point lead.

It was all too easy for the remainder of the half for Templederry, with Adrian, Gearoid & Sean Ryan all finding the mark as they took a big 2-16 to 1-10 lead into the break.

Gortnahoe would have needed a big opening to the half to be in with a chance of an upset, but there was just too many fires to be put out around the field as Eanna Murray and co continued to pick off scores at will, with Matthew Hogan's goal ten minutes from time after a Sean Ryan setup putting the game to bed once and for all.
