Packed schedule for reopened Nenagh Snooker & Social Club

At long last, Nenagh Institute Snooker & Social Club opened its doors to members and prospective members from Monday, 4th October last.

It was great to see all its friends, both young and old back playing again and hopefully will bring back a sense of normality.

The club has three major tournaments coming up before Christmas with the Nenagh Open, sponsored by Tipperary County Council and the Abbey Court Hotel, who have stood by the club for the ten years of the growing competition. This tournament is one of the favourites on the seasonal calender and attracts all the top players, including national, European and world champions.

(S.B.I) Snooker & Billiards Ireland have also awarded the club the National Club Singles Championships which will take place from 19th-21st November, and also a qualifier in December for the Irish Amateur Snooker Championships.

Preparations continue for our teams Munster (defending champions) and All Ireland Club Championships taking place in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney in January 2022. In recent years, we have managed to put forward four teams to enter these tournaments, the most of any club in the country.

Nenagh Institute Snooker & Social Club will be restarting its youth academy next week and welcome inquiries from any new players. The youth academy had been very successful until covid struck. As an indoor sport we have been hit harder than most and lookforward to getting reestablished.

The club have benefitted with a grant from Leader of up to €106,500 to go towards renovations of the club rooms on Friar Street which have now finished. The club have to contribute €22,500 towards this cost. It has been very difficult to fundraise for this money with covid but the club are hopefully now in a position to put in a series of fundraisers which has already started with its first Flag Day held recently, and the annual Club Walk which will be held on 31st October.

The club have a letter of appeal to be sent to businesses over the next month to help with our efforts and would sincerely like to thank the people of Nenagh and surrounding areas for their continued support over the years.

It is very much appreciated by the committee and club members. Donations can be made to Tony Seymour 0879604696 and will be receipted and any other committee member.
