Extra time goals secured Templemore’s first County Under 21 Ladies Football title when they defeated Galtee Rovers in Division 1 in New Inn on Sunday evening.

A thrilling encounter, both sides gave their all from beginning to end but Templemore had that bit more in the tank when it came to extra time.

Templemore went into and early lead and by the water break had recorded 2-4 with scores from Neasa Towey (1-2), Grace O’Connell (1-1) and Jill Johnston (0-1) to Galtee Rovers’ s 1-3 their scores coming from Sara Finnane (1-0), Kate Flannery (0-2) and Ellie Peters (0-1).

Upon the resumption, Galtee scored three points in quick succession one each from Sara Finnane, Kate Flannery and Aoibhe Gayson Molloy before Dani Ryan responded for Templemore. A Ruth Butler point put three points between the sides again. However, Saoirse Fanning found the back of the net to tie up the teams at the halfway mark at 2-6 apiece.

On the restart, Galtee Rovers took the lead for the first time with points from Kate Flannery and Sara Finnane before Templemore’s Emma Fitzpatrick and Jill Johnston restored parity.

An Ellie Peters point put daylight between the sides again but Galtee’s lead was short lived as Kate Delaney cut through the middle of the defence and shot to the back of the net.

Galtee came right back at them with a point from Sara Finnane. Two subsequent points from Kate Delaney had the difference back to a goal again. The West girls battled on and their hard work was justly rewarded as Ellie Peters latching onto a pass twenty yards out turned and shot for goal, blasting it to the net. All square again!

Emma Fitzpatrick and Ellie Peters exchanged points at before referee Derek O’Mahoney blew the full-time whistle at 3-12 each. Heart stopping stuff but there had to be a winner. Extra time and the lights were required as Templemore seemed to have that little bit more in the tank and two goals from Ruth Butler less than two minutes apart in the fourth and sixth minute of extra time decided the game. Kate Flannery and Sara Finnane both pointed in extra time. Ruth Butler got a third goal and added a point before Emma Fitzpatrick sealed the victory with a point.

A dominant Moyle Rovers pulled away in the last quarter to win the Division 2 title in New Inn on Sunday.

While Moyle Rovers eventually ran out easy winners, they didn’t have it all their own way and for much of the opening half there was little between the sides. Just a point a separated the sides at the first water break with Moyle Rovers scores coming from Aedin McCormack and Lucy Boland with Ardfinnan’s from Niamh O’Farrell, Ciara Nagle, and Niamh Boyle.

On the resumption, Ardfinnan’s Cathy Ryan levelled the scores. Moyle Rovers did have most of the play and as the first half went into injury time, they seemed to step up a gear with five unanswered points from Ava Wall, Eabha Dolan, Leah Clancy, Maureen Hayes, and Hazel Brennan to leave the half time score Moyle Rovers 0-10 Ardfinnan 0-5.

Moyle Rovers continued where the left off on the restart and further extended their lead with a goal from Lucy Boland an

other pointed free by Aedin McCormack, before Ardfinnan responded with a Cathy Ryan point. Eabha Dolan put another two on the board before Annalise Browne responded with one of her own for Ardfinnan. The final blow came in the third minute of injury time in this second half Alanna Dowling found the back of the net.

A 17-point turnaround saw Holycross/Ballycahill crowned Under 21 Division 3 champions when they defeated St. Odhran’s/Silvermines in the final on Sunday in New Inn.

St. Odhran’s dominated the opening half and had notched up 3-5 to Holycross’ 0-2 by the first water break. Sarah Madden opening her goal account in just the third minute and her second less than fifteen minutes later with Anna Stapleton added the third in the 18th minute.

On the restart, St. Odhran’s Eileen Gleeson added her name to the goalscorers. However, Holycross slowly began to take their scores with Kate Carr registering three points, combined with points from Elaine Brennan, Lily Maher, and Kate McGrath to bring the half time score to St. Odhran’s/Silvermines 4-6 Holycross/Ballycahill 0-8.

Holycross began to assert themselves and less than ten minutes into the second half had scored 4-2 without reply with goals Ava Carr, Kate McGrath, Lily Maher (penalty) and Meabh Ryan.

St. Odhran’s did pull a point back from Ellen Cunneen, but Holycross were now in the driving seat Elaine Brennan adding another 1-2 before Lilly Maher converted a penalty to put Holycross firmly out of reach.

Silvermines were reduced to just fourteen players for the remainder of the game when Aoife Ryan was sin-binned. St. Odhran’s Jodie McGrath claimed a goal of her own before Ellen Cunneen pointed again in the last minute of ordinary time. Lilly Maher’s third converted penalty wrapped it up for Holycross.
