Local history society launches 2021 journal

Join Kilbarron Terryglass Historical Society at the Lakeshore Community Market next Saturday, July 24, from 10am to 12 noon and again at the market, the following weekend in Ballinderry for the launch of their 2021 journal, ‘The Bridge’.

It is varied, with interesting archaeological articles that awaken the reader to what is around us and challenges us to look at the monuments, churches, wells and graveslabs that are scattered throughout the area. There are beautiful stories of people who were so much part of our parish; examples are the Eliottos of Grawn, the Wheatley sisters of Carney, and the story of Edward (Ned) Brophy, that brought back the memory of that sweet smell of the pipe that followed Ned through the corridors of Borrisokane Vocational School.

There’s the story of Nancy Byrne, in “A Life well Lived” as a world renowned restauranter, and a tribute to our Joint President, the late Matt Fogarty. Then there’s the first hand account of living through the attack on Pearl Harbour, and not forgetting the poem, ‘A Sting in the Tail’, and much more. We are so grateful to everyone - those who suscribed to the journal this year, the Nenagh Guardian, the members of the society and to all who support us in purchasing ‘The Bridge’. If anyone wishes to purchase a copy, you can do so by emailing kilbarronterryglasshistsociety@gmail.com.
