Pilgrim walk to Glenstal Abbey

Pilgrim walkers set out from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Toor, on Monday, June 7, on the final stage of a 64km three-day pilgrim walk from Saint Mary of the Rosary Church, Nenagh, to Glenstal Abbey.

On arrival to Glenstal Abbey the pilgrim walkers were welcomed by the monks with a beautiful open air ceremony that concluded with the presentation to each pilgrim of a copy of a twelfth century prayer:

“Guard these your children who, for the love of your Name, make a pilgrimage. Be their companion on the way, their guide at the crossroad, their strength in weariness, their defence in danger, their shelter on the path, their shade in the heat, their light in darkness, their comfort in discouragement, and firmness of their intentions; that through your guidance, they may arrive safely at the end of their journey and, enriched with grace and virtue, may return to their home filled with salutary and lasting joy.”
