Call for emergency insurance for aqua parks

Local councillor Séamie Morris has written to Nenagh Municipal District seeking emergency insurance for aqua parks.

He wants to the council to ask Irish Public Bodies to take on the insurance of activity ventures that cannot renew their cover, a solution that is being pursued by other public bodies.

Cllr Morris' call follows concerns raised by management of the Aqua Splash in Dromineer that they may have to close the water park element of the attraction this month because they cannot renew their insurance (see article in this week's Nenagh Guardian).

"A number of people have businesses serving the lake and are having real trouble getting insurance cover," Cllr Morris said in his correspondence with Nenagh Municipal District. "In fact, at least one of the aqua parks may have to close on Monday, week leaving Dromineer with a huge void and with up to 20 jobs lost.

"This is also the case for any business with Inflatables (summer schools, etc). We have been asked to have an outdoor summer and this is a huge problem for people who have invested heavily in providing us with the way of enjoying outdoor activities.

"There has been a call for Irish Public Bodies to insure these activity tourism products as a stop-gap while the IAAF finds group insurance cover. This is an emergency situation," Cllr Morris stated.
