Pike competition is a great success

Garrykennedy Fishing Club held a very successful Charity Pike Competition on Sunday week last to raise funds to help pay the medical expenses of a young local boy Joey Moran, who has been diagnosed with a serious illness.

Weather conditions were ideal on the day and the event attracted over 60 anglers from all around the lake and further afield to fish for pike on Lough Derg, one of Europe’s top lakes for this species of fish.

The competition was won by Billy Seymour from Dromineer, who landed a massive pike of 109 centimetres. Following close behind in second place was Shane Ahearn with a fish of 106 centimetres while Darren Gardiner was third.

The club wishes to thank our many sponsors, too numerous to mention here, for their kindness in donating many top prizes on the day. Their generosity made the competition a huge success, as did the support we received from anglers from near and far.

Our sincere thanks to everyone associated with the event.

The funds generated have been presented by the club for the benefit of Joey, to whom we wish the best of luck for the future.
