Public open space and site landscaping will feature in the development in Roscrea.

Green light for 65 houses

Tipperary Co Council has granted conditional planning permission for a development of 65 new houses in Roscrea.

TD Housing Ltd had sought to build 70 dwellings at Glencarrick, Scart, in a plan that also involves demolition of six partially-built structures relating to a previous plan on the site. Public open space, site landscaping, roads and footpaths, site lighting and associated works are included in a development that is to be a continuation of an existing, partially complete scheme.

It is understood that agreement in principle was reached to provide seven units to the council in accordance with Part V of the Planning and Development Act.

Local councillor Michael Smith made a submission on the plan in which he expressed concern over increased housing density in the area, with two other large housing developments, Whitethorn and Tullaskeagh, of around 300 houses in the direct vicinity. Cllr Smith asked the council to assess the proposal for new housing in terms of public health, residential amenity in the area, services and limited road capacity.

Having received further information from the developer, the council granted permission with a stipulation that the permission is for 65 house units in the form of 26 semi-detached and 39 terraced units. Among other points set out in the schedule of conditions are requirements in relation to a site layout plan, safety file, access road, turning points, footpaths and pedestrian crossings.

The naming of the new housing development is to be subject to the agreement of the council.

Last month the Department of Housing granted approval in principle for the council to develop 46 new social homes at Glencarrick. Welcoming this move, Jackie Cahill TD said the new development would consist of 12 one-bed apartments, 19 two-bed apartments, 11 three-bedroom homes and four four-bed homes.
