Tipp's young problem solver champion

A student from Ursuline Secondary School got first place in Junior (under 16s) category from 100 of Ireland’s top young problem-solvers in the National Final of the All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) .

Megan Boland from Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles is the 2021 ADAPT All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad Junior Champion. The national final saw the students tackle some of the toughest puzzles in logic and linguistics in little-known languages from all over the globe.The final, and the Preliminary Round in January, were both held online remotely due to the pandemic.

The AILO Final also selected the four students to go on to represent Ireland at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) this Summer. The four team members are Justin Cunningham, who is the overall AILO Champion, from Patrician Secondary School Newbridge, Oscar Despard from Sandford Park School who got second place, Natalia Timulakova from Holy Faith Clontarf who got third place and David Wright from Lucan Community College Dublin who placed fourth.

Depending on government restrictions etc., AILO is aiming to run the International competition papers remotely from Dublin City University during the week of July 19th-23rd.
