Ryan O’Meara

Works planned for Nenagh-Clough’ road

Confirmation from Tipperary County Council that a 1.75km stretch of the Nenagh to Cloughjordan Road, the R491, is to be resurfaced later this year has been welcomed by Cloughjordan resident, Ryan O’Meara, who is also Chairman of Tipperary Ógra Fianna Fáil. Mr O’Meara has, in recent months, been working with Deputy Jackie Cahill and Tipperary County Council to push for a section of the Nenagh to Cloughjordan Road to be resurfaced.

Mr O'Meara said the works were badly needed: “I have been contacted by locals over the last number of months complaining about the road surface on the R491 from Glenahilty to Middlewalk. I am pleased to see that Tipperary County Council has agreed to my request to resurface the main Nenagh to Cloughjordan Road at these areas. I am sure this will also be welcomed by other locals.

“I am also making calls for safety barriers to be erected along the R491 around Kyle. This part of the road is particularly dangerous and is a well-known accident blackspot, where serious collisions have taken place in the past. There is a dangerous drop off the side of the road between Kyle Cross and Glenahilty Cross and I believe that the council must act to increase safety along this piece of road through the installation of safety barriers.

He concluded: “I welcome confirmation from Tipperary County Council that these much-needed resurfacing works are to be completed later this year and I will continue to work with locals and the council with the view of increasing safety along the Cloughjordan to Nenagh Road, where it is needed.”
