The funding for work on the rural roads has been welcomed by Cllrs Carroll and Bonfield.

Councillors welcome schedule of road works

Councillors Fiona Bonfield and John Carroll have welcomed this year’s schedule of road works in their local areas.

Also among the planned works are footpath repairs on the school road at Kilcommon, €13,500, and at St Flannan's Terrace, Ballinaclough, €13,500. Bridge rehabilitation works will be undertaken at Kilmastulla, Birdhill, €150,000 and the Knockrenihan culvert, Portroe, €45,000.

Cllr John Carroll welcomed the funding for all rural roads in the district in 2021, and said he acknowledges the efforts by each councillor within their own respective areas.

Cllr Bonfield also mentioned that in Newport town a €20,000 toilet block upgrade is planned, along with installation of a non-contact water dispenser and bicycle repair station at Birdhill (€8,000).

A draft of the Newport Enhancement Plan is currently being finalised and should be available soon for review and discussion. Cllr Bonfield furthermore pointed out that the first draft of the Killaloe-Ballina Town Enhancement, Tourism, and Mobility Plan is currently being finalised and should be available soon for consultation, while at Newport Town Park, contractors will be back on site once Level 5 restrictions are lifted.
