Nenagh and District Flower and Garden Club’s Dromineer members Lulu Bergin, Breda Flannery, Nuala Freeman (Chairperson) and Frances Chadwick raising awareness ahead of Daffodil Day 2021, which takes place on Friday, March 26th. Daffodil Day street collections have been cancelled for the second year in a row due to Covid-19 so people are urged to donate online at www.cancer.ie

All set for virtual Daffodil Day

Little did we think when Daffodil Day was cancelled last year that we would be faced with the same challenges again in 2021! Usually the streets of Nenagh are lit up on the day with the fundraising volunteers associated with Nenagh and District Flower and Garden Club at their tables, buckets of daffodils at the ready, pins to sell, bringing good cheer to all. However, all is not lost.

While fundraising for Daffodil Day will be different again in 2021, it is, as the Irish Cancer Society points out, more important than ever because every day in Ireland, 150 people are diagnosed with cancer.

That is one person every three minutes. Daffodil Day may be gone for now but the kindness that Irish people are renowned for, and Nenagh people are no exception, will mean that that the services, support and care, so appreciated by over 44,000 patients diagnosed annually, will continue.

The ladies of Nenagh Flower and Garden Club and members of the Daffodil Day Committee, are mindful of the generous support given by the people of Nenagh and surrounding areas each year.

They would like to point out that a Virtual Daffodil Day, Friday, March 26th, is a day for us all to continue to give hope to those affected by cancer. You can help by texting DAFFODIL to 50300 to donate €6.

Though we cannot take to the streets for a second year, let’s not forget the cancer patients and their families who rely on the crucial support of the Irish Cancer Society by giving generously.
