Fundraising for Boher Autism unit

A parent of an autistic child will run a half marathon this weekend to raise money for purchase of new equipment for a local national school which provides such a valuable service.

Elaine Bennett, whose daughter attends Boher National School, will undertake the 20 kilometre run on Saturday to raise money for the school’s Lilac Room facility.

The Lilac Room is an early intervention special pre-school class, which caters for children between the ages of 3 and 5 who have autism.

“I want to make a small difference by running a half marathon on March 13th to raise funds in support of the Lilac Room,” she said.

“Our little girl is very lucky to have the opportunity to attend the Lilac Room.

“The respect, kindness and support that our daughter receives from the staff is invaluable and their support makes a huge difference to our family's everyday life.”

The campaign is raising funds to enable Boher NS to purchase some new equipment for their Sensory Room.

This new equipment will help the children with sensory regulation, gross motor skills, balance, co-ordination, and communication and language development.

Any donation no matter how big or small will be hugely appreciated. Go to: www.gofundme.com/f/gvrcj-the-lilac-run
