There will be strong Tipperary involvement in the new Treaty United men’s soccer team who will take part in the first division of the Airtricity League for the first time this season.

The newly formed Limerick city club, who received a licence to compete in the second tier of the League of Ireland, will make their bow on Friday 26th March when they travel to play Bray Wanderers in the opening game of the new season.

Dave Rooney, former Ballymackey and Nenagh AFC coach, as well as Treaty United senior ladies manager, will be the assistant manager to manager Tommie Rooney, and will also be the goalkeeping coach.

On the playing side, Mark Walsh joins from Nenagh Celtic and will be joined from the premier county by former BT Harps and St. Michael’s striker Sean Paddy Guerins. Thurles native and former Peake Villa attacker Matthew McKevitt also makes the move, as does Willie Armshaw from St Michael’s.

Treaty United will play their games in the Markets Field in Limerick and replace the now defunct Limerick FC who went into examinership in 2019.
