Funding boost for Tipp's swimming pools

Funding of €31,654 has been allocated to 13 swimming pool operators across Tipperary in the second and final phase of the Covid-19 Swimming Pool Grant Scheme. This funding is in addition to funding which was already provided in December.

The funding is part of the July Stimulus package, which aimed to support publicly accessible swimming pools respond to the challenges associated with maintaining swimming pools and the effort to reopen and remain open, within COVID-19 safety protocols, and to promote participation in the sport of swimming.

The pools to benefit are:

Nenagh Leisure Centre - €3,063, Trinity Leisure Club – Nenagh €2,298, Riverside Swimming Pool – Ballina €2,065, Roscrea Leisure Centre - €2,298, Anner Hotel Leisure Centre - €2,135, Clonmel Park Hotel Leisure Centre - €2,669, Clonmel Swimming Pool - €2,831, Club Minella - €2,646, Ballykisteen Hotel Leisure Centre - €1,601, Kilcornan Lodge Leisure Centre - €1,369, Sean Kelly Sport Centre - €2,344, Sean Treacy Memorial Swimming Pool - €3,829 and Thurles Leisure Centre - €2,298.

Swimming pool operations across Tipperary have continued to maintain their facilities whilst closed throughout the current lockdown. They have experienced considerable costs and the funding announced today will assist in the challenges they face when re-opening with reduced capacities and Covid-19 safety protocols.

The announcement has been welcomed by Tipperary TDs Michael Lowry and Jackie Cahill as well as Senator Garret Ahearn.
