Cllr O’Meara condemns ‘horrendous’ dumping
Local councillor Michael O'Meara has condemned what he described as “horrendous” illegal dumping at Redwood, Lorrha, last week.
“I visited Redwood bogs to see first hand the reports I received on illegal dumping and the spectacle that I saw was truly horrendous," Cllr O'Meara stated.
“There were bags and bags of household rubbish strewn all over the place, ranging from old fridges to bottles to nappies. What sort of mindset of people would do such a thing in this day and age?" Cllr O'Meara asked.
“I have contacted the litter warden, who will go through the rubbish to identify documentation, and it is our intention to find the perpetrators of this disgusting act. Also, there are an amount of glass bottles in the bog which could start a fire, which would be an environmental disaster.
“I am requesting the council to put up CCTV cameras in the area to stop this dumping in the future. The local community in Redwood are very angry that people would come in to destroy the beautiful natural environment of Redwood bog. Since the Covid, I have seen a huge upsurge in illegal dumping and fly-tipping, and action must now be taken to stop this,” said Cllr Michael O'Meara.
