Gardaí charge man with alleged burglary

Gardaí have arrested and charged a man in relation to an alleged burglary and a theft incident in Nenagh on Monday of this week.

Shortly before 2.30pm gardaí in the town received a report that a man had entered the staff area and had stolen the tip jar from a restaurant in Summerhill.

A description of the suspect was circulated to all gardaí on duty in the area and a man, aged in his late teens, was arrested by a detective at 5pm.

He was brought to Nenagh Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Garda later received a report from a clothes shop on Mitchell Street that a jacket had been stolen. The man who had been arrested was found in possession of this jacket.

He has since been charged and was due to appear before Nenagh District Court on Tuesday as we went to press.

Meanwhile, with Covid cases rising, gardaí in Nenagh and adjoining towns have stepped up their efforts to ensure that people abide by the Level 5 restrictions introduced by the Government. A spokesman in Nenagh said a number of fines had been issued in recent days to people from outside the locality who had no valid reason for being in the area.

Gardaí are investigation the theft of tools an other items from a site at the Rathcairn estate in Moneygall which took place on Monday night of last week. They are also seeking information on the theft of items from a car parked at Tullaskeagh Drive, Knock Road, Roscrea on Tuesday night of last week.

Gardaí in Nenagh questioned an invidual who was allegedly dumping litter on the side of the Limerick Road on the outskirts of the town on Thursday last. The Environmental Section of Tipperary County Council have been provided with details of the incident.

Gardaí are also warning people to be vigilant following an incident in which an individual claiming to be from a reputable company phoned a homeowner who gave details of their bank account, which resulted in the theft of money from the injured party.
