River walkway blocked
The recent blocking of a section of the popular walkway along Nenagh River has been met with surprise.
A gate has been placed at the walkway entrance at Clarianna Bridge with signage indicating danger due to “unstable, uneven ground” and “sunken hazards covered by vegetation”.
The walkway along Nenagh River is used by walkers, joggers and anglers. It is understood that there is a “fisherman's path” right-of-way in existence, though the lands are in private ownership.
The walkway has been developed and maintained over the years by the Ormond Anglers Association. While this is the off-season, Joe O'Donoghue of the Ormond Anglers said he has received several calls over the blocking of this section of the walkway. He was not aware of any difficulties on any section of the 40-mile river and said this action came as a surprise.
Mr O'Donoghue said he has spoken to the landowner about the situation and hoped for a satisfactory outcome soon.
