Carroll welcomes new broadband points

Local councillor John Carroll has welcomed confirmation from the Department of Rural and Community Development that 10 additional sites proposed as new Broadband Connection Points (BCP) in County Tipperary have been finally approved and are going forward for a high-speed broadband connection.

The 10 additional BCPs are as follows: Apple Camping and Caravan Park, Moorstown, Cahir; The Pavillion, Ballinderry; Donaskeagh Community Centre; Ballinahinch Community Centre; Boher Parish Hall, Ballina; Terryglass Community Hall; Ballylooby Castlegrace GAA club; Ballylooby; Fanure Community Hall, Roscrea; Latteragh Community Centre, Sallypark; Kilcoleman Community and Recreational Centre, Burgess.

Cllr Carroll has been working with Simon Howe, Broadband Officer, Tipperary County Council on identifying local BCP locations over the last 12 months.

The council will be working to progress these locations with the Department of Rural and Community Development, National Broadband Ireland and other relevant stakeholders on delivering these BCPs as soon as possible.

Cllr Carroll has been endeavouring to bring this necessary broadband infrastructure to so many rural communities who suffer from very poor broadband connectivity. He said that these necessary broadband improvements at many of our community and sporting centres will lead to increased and enhanced community activity and participation, resulting in a more vibrant and socially active community, which is hugely important at this time.

Cllr Carroll is very hopeful that many other rural communities will benefit from broadband rollout in the months ahead in order to increase the levels of community, sporting and social interaction in the years ahead, and taking account of the current challenging environment that we live within.
