Mary and Andy Flynn outside their popular bistro.

Well-wishes from customers as Flynn family bow out

Nenagh's Flynn family marked the end of almost 40 years in business last Friday as they hand over the reins of their bistro on Pearse St to new management.

Mary and Andy Flynn ran a pub and restaurant on Sarsfield St since 1981 before opening their Pearse St bistro 14 years ago. Theirs was very much a family-run business with all of their five children (daughters Elaine, Maria, Catriona and Bernadette, and son Andrew) involved to one extent or another.

Mr and Mrs Flynn formally retired from the business last Friday and the popular local family was humbled by the outpouring of goodwill that they received from the Nenagh community.

“We were flabbergasted by the amount of cards and flowers and well-wishes we got from customers,” said Elaine. “It was quite emotional for my parents because it just shows what people thought of them. It was an amazing experience for all of us; we were just blown away by it.”

Thanking all concerned, she said the Flynn family would like to sound a particular note of thanks to their “fantastic staff” for their commitment over the years.

Staff member Louise Murphy is now taking over the bistro and the Flynn family wish her the very best of luck for the years ahead.
