Eliza and Evie Ward - award winners.

Utterly nut-erly! Sisters award-winning peanut butter products

Two Nenagh sisters who make high quality peanut butter products have come up trumps at the prestigious international Great Taste Awards. Eliza and Evie Ward have been producing plant based treats and peanut butters at their Stafford Street Enterprise Centre unit for over the past two years.

The unit is aptly called NutShed HQ, and it is from were the Ward sisters wholesale their treats and sell their jars of single origin peanut butters to over 140 speciality shops, cafes and delis around Ireland. Eliza and Evie were delighted to have scooped two gongs at last week's Great Taste Awards. They won a star for their NutShed Crunchy Honey Roasted Peanut Butter and another star for their NutShed Chocolate Peanut Butter.

The Great Taste Awards is the world's largest and most trusted food and drink awards which is run by the Guild of Fine Foods. It is seen as a stamp of excellence and values taste above all else during the blind tasting. The 144 judges are made up of an extremely high calibre of food critics, chefs, restaurateurs, retail buyers, cooks, producers, food writers and journalists.

"To receive international recognition for a product we make in small batches here in Nenagh is incredible," a delighted Eliza told The Guardian. "The judges loved the flavour journey of the sweet honey roasted chunks through the nutty, creamy aroma of our peanut butter, a recipe that we created five years ago for our Saturday market stall."

The two sisters, it would appear, are chips off old blocks, being daughters of Peter and Mary Ward, owners of the Country Choice shop in Kenyon Street, Nenagh, which has won multiple food awards down through the years.

Local stockists of the nut products include Country Choice, The Pantry and Tony's Shop in Ballycommon. All the products made at the Nutshed are available to purchase at www.nutshed.ie.
