CAMOGIE: Tipperary Senior Championship Quarter Final Preview

By Enda Treacy

With the groups now concluded the teams can now get down to brass tacks with knockout camogie beginning this Friday as we now know the pairings for the County Senior Camogie Championship quarter finals.

Drom & Inch v Toomevara at The Ragg @ 6.30pm
Defending champions Drom & Inch look to have built on last year and look for all to see like they will go a fair way about retaining their title.
They will take on Toomevara and this game is appears a bit of a mismatch going by results thus far, as Toome’ look to be struggling at this level in their first year back in the top tier with a number of key players missing for various reasons, and they will look to keep the score line respectable with a view to next year. Verdict: Drom & Inch

Clonoulty/Rossmore v Silvermines in Clonoulty @ 6.30pm
Silvermines will make the trip West to take on Clonoulty/Rossmore in the third quarter-final on Friday evening
The ‘Mines have made some notable progress this year and after beating Toomevara in the first round, they eventually lost, despite playing well, in the other games against Cashel and Burgess/Duharra.
Their opponents will be difficult opposition as they have a formidable forward unit with the likes of Cait Devane, Casey Hennessy and Katie Davern, for Silvermines this will be a tough nut to crack, but they will come in with nothing to lose and should make this a good contest; however, the experience of Clonoulty should see them over the line on this occasion. Verdict: Clonoulty/Rossmore

Cashel v Annacarty in Cashel @ 6.30pm
In what looks like the tie of the draw is the clash of Cashel and Annacarty in Leahy Park. This has the makings of a cracking encounter as both sides have had a mixed bag in their respective groups but will be confident coming into the game.

Cashel have continued their impressive progress on the last few years, and they proved to be more than a match for Burgess/Duharra the first day out and with Caoimhe Purdue and Orla O’Dwyer in excellent form they will be confident.

As for Annacarty, they come into the game with two defeats out of three in what was an extremely competitive group but they will be disappointed with the manner of the defeats against Drom and Clonoulty; but the win against Nenagh showed that they still have the ability to mix it with the best and they will be hard to beat here. All in all, this will be a tight game, but the momentum Cashel have created in their games to date might see them over the line in here. Verdict: Cashel

Burgess/Duharra v Nenagh Eire Og on Monday in Portroe @ 6.30pm
A north derby will take place as group toppers Burgess/Duharra will welcome neighbours Nenagh Eire Og to Portroe on Monday in what should be good fare.
Burgess/Duharra aren’t as strong as previous years, but their results so far would suggest they will still be difficult to stop and are a very experienced team at this level.
Nenagh have played well despite losing all their games to date and while they score pretty well, they can’t seem to be able to keep it out at the other end and they will need to address this if they are to have any chance. Burgess/Duharra to win with a degree of comfort in this one. Verdict: Burgess/Duharra
