Camogie Championship Round-Up

There were some cracking matches in the other games of the opening weekend in the County Senior Camogie Championship with all games very competitive as the new format looks to be bringing the best out in all teams.

In Group 1, the clash of the Eire Og’s was won by Annacarty as they defeated Nenagh 3-13 to 2-9 after a tough encounter.

Goals for Nenagh from Grace O’Brien and Caroline Browne had Nenagh behind by just a single point at half time, but Annacarty pulled away in the second half to record a good win.

In the other game, Drom & Inch got their title defense off to a perfect start as they dispatched Clonoulty/Rossmore with eight points to spare, 3-12 to 0-13, with Eimear McGrath the star in that game scoring a hat-trick for her side.

Drom looked good again early and their lust for goals was a real feature of this win with a good win as Cait Devane could do little to change the result for Clonoulty.

The other game in group two produced a very close encounter as Cashel certainly improved on last year’s meeting against Burgess/Duharra, but it was the north side who prevailed with a three-point victory as the game finished 1-16 to 1-13.

Jenny Grace was in exceptional form as she notched eleven points with eight coming from placed balls, while Amy Kennedy also impressed with 1-3 from play from full forward.

Caoimhe Purdue mirrored Grace with some impressive shooting of her own with ten points coming from her stick during the game, with Orla O’Dwyer also contributing well with 1-1, but it proved too little as Burgess get off to a winning start.
