Paradzai Havatitye with his newly-finished creation in the grounds of St Mary of the Rosary Church.

Piece of peace in Nenagh church grounds!

Gifted wood sculptor Paradzai Havatitye has just completed his latest creation, a large seat carved from the base of an old tree in the grounds of St Mary of the Rosary Church.

Bearing the inscription 'Be Still: Psalm 37:7', the piece represents love, peace and tranquility depicted by nature. The swans represent love, togetherness and also a celebration of Nenagh 800 in that the Normans travelled by water into this area.

The sculpture was carved from the remains of an old maracapana tree that was felled for safety and to allow more light into the newly-opened Gill's Garden. Para, who lives in Roscrea, spent about three weeks working on the piece. His previous work includes the wood-carved statues of Fr Alec Reid in St Mary's and Sr Breda Quigley and Fr Dan Fitzgerald at St John the Baptist Church in Tyone.
