Writer in residence, John W Sexton

Dromineer Literary Festival's innovative writing programme

In these unprecedented times for everyone, particularly those working in the arts, Dromineer Literary Festival Committee are still uncertain if the festival will go ahead this year.

While a lot of writers and performers are finding themselves with cancellations to their already precarious occupations, we are delighted to say that we have found a way to accommodate our Writer in Residence programme!  Our writer in residence, John W Sexton, has become our Distance Writer-in-Residence!  You might say it's a paradoxical innovation!

The committee felt the Writer-in-Residence programme was one of the most successful and satisfying element of last year's festival. Twelve writers from various backgrounds and groups worked with John over the summer culminating in a reading of their work in the Yacht Club in Dromineer on the Saturday of the festival.  The quality and standard of the work was extremely impressive, and the feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive.  So much so, the committee decided to continue the work again this year and to publish the work at this year's festival.

Despite Covid-19, the writers and John are working away and by all accounts the work is going very well. The committee are particularly happy to be able to support a writer at this time, and we are looking forward to publishing the work of our local writers.
