Tennis clubs reporting strong adherence to protocols

Tennis clubs were busy on Monday and Tuesday of this week as they returned to non-competitive action.

Strict measures have been put in place by Tennis Ireland to ensure everyone’s safety, including the non- access to clubhouses, the movement of players around the net and the use of marked tennis balls.

Roscrea Tennis Club was one of those who reopened its courts on Monday and co-chairperson Brian Crofton has reported a positive reaction so far.

“There was great feedback,” he said.

“All members adhered to all the protocols.”

In an effort to ease any concerns of members, a new hand sanitizing station has been purchased for people to use before and after a game while a new online booking system has been set-up by the club for the first time.

However, for the first phase of the reopen, the club have put their own schedule in place to ensure all its members get a chance to play up to June 8th.

“We set-up a three-week rota to ensure everyone gets a chance to play at least once a week with a timetable in place,” Crofton added.

“You will be in a group of four people and they are the only four you can play with for the first three weeks, be it singles or doubles.”
