Ken's 'rowathon' for Share A Dream Charity

A fitness instructor from the Garda College in Templemore, Ken McDonald, will carry a rowing machine up and down Carrauntoohil, on his back in aid of the Share a Dream Foundation on March 28th. Ken is a champion rower and a Limerick native and he aims to raise €30,000 for the charity that suffered two major break-ins last year causing thousands of euros worth of damages.
As part of the fundraising effort Ken gas organised a ‘Rowathon’ in the Barack Obama Plaza on Friday, March 13th.
“In 2018 I met with Shay Kinsella of the Share a Dream Foundation who asked me to build a Garda Station at his themed facility in Limerick,” Ken said. “He wanted a Garda Station where children could role play and act out the job of a Garda in a safe environment. With the help of some of my colleagues we completed the station and the new Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris, travelled to open his 1st ever Garda station at the Share a Dream facility in October.”
Ken is a former international rower with 4 national records for rowing. He also has 5 world championship gold medals, 2 world records and 4 national records. “As my background is rowing, I decided to carry 4 stone (26kg) rowing machine up and down Carrauntoohil in aid of the Share a Dream Foundation. The place has been burgled twice and tens of thousands of euro worth of damage has been caused to the facility,” Ken said. “This is a worthy charity that makes dreams come through for sick and terminally ill children.”
