AIB CLUB HURLING ALL-IRELAND FINAL

After a long and successful county and provincial campaign Borris-Ileigh head to Croke Park on Sunday next, January 19th, to take on Ballyhale Shamrocks (Kilkenny) in the AIB Club Hurling All-Ireland Final at 2pm.

Displaying terrific attitude and determination in their games to date, the support of the county will be with Borris-Ileigh as they look to emulate the team of 1987 that won the Tommy Moore Cup. We send best wishes to the club and management on Sunday.

The referee will be Colm Lyons (Cork).

ANDREW CORDEN CUP

The Tipperary U20 football panel played their second Andrew Corden Cup fixture last Sunday against Wexford in Monroe, making it win number two in the competition for Tom McGlinchey's side, with Tipperary winning comfortably on a 3-18 to 0-4 score line.

Tipperary's next opponents Carlow have also won both group games, defeating Wexford 2-19 to 0-6 and Waterford 3-15 to 0-10.

As Tipperary and Carlow won both their group games, the counties have decided to play the final this weekend and therefore the Andrew Corden Cup is set for this Saturday January 25th at 6pm.

 

Tipperary get their Munster Under-20 championship campaign up and running on Wednesday, February 19th, when Limerick will provide the opposition at LIT Gaelic Grounds.

 

POST PRIMARY SCHOOLS

There was a nail-biting finish to the Dr. Harty Cup U19A Senior Hurling quarter final between Our Lady’s Templemore and Thurles CBS last week, with Our Lady's emerging victorious on a 1-17 to 0-19 score line.

Best wishes to Our Lady's in the semi-final against St. Flannans College on Saturday week, January 25th at 1pm, in St. Flannans College, Ennis.

The other semi-finals results were as follows; CBC Cork 1-13 St. Colman’s Fermoy 1-12, Midleton CBS 2-17 DLS Waterford 2-8 and St. Flannans Ennis 3-17 St. Joseph’s Tulla 0-16

MUNSTER JUNIOR B HURLING

Drom & Inch will have to go to the well again as Garryspillane forced a draw deep in added time in the Munster Junior B hurling final in Raheenagh, Co. Limerick last Saturday.

The final score was Drom-Inch 2-10 Garryspillane 3-7. The competition is hosted by Killeedy GAA Club and the replay is set for this Saturday, January 18th at 2pm.

MUNSTER JUNIOR B FOOTBALL

Best wishes to Killenaule in the Munster Junior B Football Semi Final against Grange (Cork) this Sunday January 19th at 2pm, hosted by Knockanderry GAA Club, Limerick.

The other semi-final is on Sunday 26th January between Banogue (Limerick) and Scartaglen (Kerry) with the Final on Sunday 2nd / 9th February TBC.

All games will be played in Knockaderry and are weather dependent

TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW

Congratulations to all winners in the January GAA Draw took place last Friday night, in Louis McCormacks Bar, Abbeyville Lorrha. First prize of the New Year, a Skoda Fabia/Renault Clio or €15,000, went to Pat Stapleton with Golden-Kilfeacle the promoting club, while second prize of a Holiday or €5,000 was won by Alan O’Brien with Emly the promoting club.

TIPPERARY SUPPORTERS CLUB

The Tipperary Supporters Club 33rd Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 30th January 2020 at the Anner Hotel, Thurles at 8pm and all are welcome.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Any club participating in ‘the Operation Transformation Ireland Lights Up Partnership’ must follow the guidelines below as directed from the Insurance Manager in Croke Park so clubs need to register with Get Ireland Walking.

Cover under GAA liability Insurance is only extended to clubs who register and comply with the guidelines including:

The club must register with at least two walking leaders with GIW.

Review and update the club health and safety statement and complete a documented hazard inspection of the proposed walking track/route in the club. All floodlighting must be checked prior to the commencement of each walk.

If the club doesn’t have a purpose built walking track with flood lights, they can coordinate walks which must begin at the clubhouse and end at the clubhouse, a full risk assessment of the route must be carried out by the club and the route plan submitted to GAA Insurance Department in advance of the first walk.

The club can decide what time between 7pm-9pm each week the lights will be turned on.

Registration of all participating walkers must be taken each night. Enjoy the walk.

ELECTRIC IRELAND FITZGIBBON & SIGERSON CUP

With the first of the action already played in this year's Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon and Sigerson Cups, the following is a list of Tipperary players on the final declaration panel lists for their respective college.

Interesting to note, of the 487 players declared for the 14 colleges, there are 20 counties represented with the breakdown of player representation as follows; Galway 73, Dublin 68, Cork 66, Tipperary 62, Kilkenny 59, Wexford 30, Waterford 29, Limerick 25, Clare 22, Laois 11, Offaly 10, Carlow 7, Kildare 7, Westmeath 5, Kerry 3, Meath 3, Wicklow 3, Antrim 1, Mayo 1 and Sligo 1.

The following is a snippet review of the six games played last Sunday starting with the two games in group A, where Maynooth University defeated Trinity College 0-16 to 0-15. Conor Stakelum starting at right half forward was on the score sheet for Maynooth with 0-2 from play while Cathal Moloney also lined out at left half back.

In the other game in the group DCU overcame UL 0-21 to 0-18. Cian Darcy at full forward was in superb form for UL scoring 0-15 (0-10f) though he was still on the losing side. He was joined on the starting fifteen by Barry Hogan in goal, Padraic Campion at right half back with Bryan O'Mara beside him at centre back. Brian McGrath and Jack Shelly took up position at centre field, while Shane Neville was introduced in the second half.

Moving to Group B, Waterford IT defeated Limerick IT 1-23 to 1-14. For WIT Tom Hayes was at right corner back with Kevin Hassett at full back and Michael Whelan at midfield, while Fionn Cleary was a second half replacement for Waterford's Austin Gleeson. For LIT, Billy Seymour was in devastating form scoring 1-11 (9f, 1'65) of his sides tally from right half forward. He was joined on the side by Eoin Collins in goal, Darren Moran at full back and Robert Byrne in midfield. Dan O'Meara and Ross Bonnar took up both corner forward positions while Rian Doody, Evan Fitzpatrick and Ruadhan Mulrooney were all introduced.

The other group game resulted in a 1-19 to 1-10 win for Mary Immaculate College over TU Dublin, though there appears to be no breakdown of match day panels to hand at present.

There was just the one game in Group C as UCC narrowly defeated NUI Galway 0-19 to 0-17. Mark Kehoe and Paddy Cadell both came off the bench to help see UCC over the line, with Kehoe scoring 0-1 from play. For NUIG, Shane Fletcher lined out at right corner forward.

The last fixture in this round up was a high scoring affair in Group D where IT Carlow defeated UCD 3-20 to 2-16. Tommy Nolan came on in the second half for IT Carlow while the Purcell brothers, Michael in midfield and Rory at centre forward scored 0-1 apiece for UCD. Niall Heffernan started at right half back while Diarmuid Ryan was introduced late in the match.

Next weekend’s fixtures are as follows;

Group A Round 2 – MU v DCU and UL v TCD
Group B Round 2 – Mary IC v LIT and WIT v TU Dublin
Group C Round 2 – UCC v CIT
Group D Round 2 – IT Carlow v GMIT

Turning the attention to the Sigerson Cup panels, Tipperary has five players involved with 4 colleges as follows;

TU Dublin (1) – Daire Brennan (Kilsheelan-Kilcash).
University College Cork (1) – Paudie Feehan (Killenaule)
University College Dublin (1) – Emmett Moloney (Drom & Inch).
University of Limerick (2) – Jack Delahunty (Newport) and Jack Kennedy (Clonmel Commercials).

A quick review of last weekend's games involving Tipperary players is also as follows: UCC with Paudie Feehan lining out at midfield defeated NUI Galway 2-12 to 1-14.

QUB defeated TU Dublin 1-14 to 1-8 where Daire Brennan lined out at left half back for TU Dublin.

Jack Kennedy lined out at centre forward for UL as his side went down 0-8 to 0-5 against IT Sligo.

The final match for now saw UCD defeat UUJ 0-13 to 0-11 though Emmett Moloney saw no action for UCD.

The quarter finals are down for decision this weekend where its DCU Dóchas Éireann v QUB, UCD v St. Mary’s, IT Sligo v Letterkenny IT and IT Carlow v UCC. The relegation final between IT Tralee and Athlone IT also goes ahead
