Did your club benefit from €1.6m Tipp Sports Grant windfall?
Christmas came early for 45 sporting clubs and organisations in Tipperary last week as €1.6 million in funding was confirmed under the 2019 Sports Capital Fund.
The Sports Capital Programme (SCP) is operated by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and provides grants to assist in the development or refurbishment of sports facilities and the provision of sports equipment. It is part funded from the proceeds of the National Lottery. These allocations are hugely beneficial to many sports clubs and voluntary organisations.
One of the largest beneficiaries in the north of the county is Burgess GAA club, who are to get over €56,000 which will go towards the development of an astro-turf training facility being currently developed at their club grounds in Kilcolman for both the GAA and Burgess/Duharra camogie club.
Holycross/Ballycahill GAA club received the largest allocation in the county of €75,000 towards the continued upgrading of facilities at the John Doyle Centre.
Nenagh Ormond RFC also received a significant grant allocation of €55,000, which will also go towards the development of an all-weather training area at the club grounds in Lisatunny.
Commenting on this year’s allocations, Independent TD Michael Lowry said: “The monies make it possible to complete a variety of projects with immense value to local communities. I am pleased to have assisted and supported many of the successful applications across the county.”
Similarly, local Labour Party TD, Alan Kelly added: “I’d like to congratulate the clubs who have been successful with their applications. A lot of hard work goes into these applications.”
