The forgotten tradition of Irish Mummers features in this year's Spleodar Festival.

Spleodar Halloween Arts Festival returns

Spleodar Halloween Arts Festival, Tipperary’s only children’s festival, celebrates its 19th anniversary this year with a series of events taking place in Nenagh Arts Centre, as well as CBS Nenagh and the streets of Nenagh October 26th to 31st.

Young audiences and their families can immerse themselves in a variety of workshops, performances, live music, parade and fireworks during the six-day event. Visit www.spleodar.ie for more information.

Spleodar Halloween Arts Festival is passionate about creating an engaging programme suitable for everyone with a number of parent & child workshops for the very young as well as a number of free events to attend this year.

The festival workshops include Pumpkin Decorating, Scare Yourself Silly Rhymes, Wearable Art Printmaking, Slime Lab, Mythical Clay Creatures, Wacky Racers and Mask Making to name but a few. ‘The Dig’, a performance about Archaeologist Mac who gets carried away with his highfalutin stories, takes place in the theatre on Saturday, October 26th. and the film Revolting Rhymes mixes the classic fairy tales of Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and The Three Little Pigs and serves them with a mischievous twist. Our hugely popular Ghoulish Ghost Tour returns for 3 days with all new twisted tales to tickle and terrify you in equal measure.

Join the Bank Holiday Monday parade where Spleodar Halloween Arts Festival revive the almost forgotten tradition of Irish Mummers led by the chief Mummer bedecked in a costume hand crafted by local artist Gerardine Wisdom with materials sourced from the banks of Lough Derg. Carrying his hazel staff aloft he will guide the parade through the streets of Nenagh culminating outside the Arts Centre for the tale of the ‘Puca and the Piper’ with a Celtic musical celebration.

The annual fireworks, now a long tradition of Spleodar Halloween Arts Festival, closes the festival and promises to be a stunning spectacle of explosive colour on All Hallows’ Eve.

The festival Director Eva Birdthistle said: “Our vision for Spleodar Halloween Arts Festival is to programme high quality arts experiences for young people and their families that is both inspirational and memorable, we want to develop a culture that puts children at the centre and caters to different ages and tastes. We want to animate Nenagh Town with spectacles designed to provoke joy and wonder, taking creativity beyond the walls of institutions. We are so excited to bring this jam-packed festival to Nenagh this Halloween.”

Spleodar Halloween Arts Festival brings six days of fun for the family during this mid-term of October 26th to 31st. The festival is funded by the Arts Council, Creative Ireland & Tipperary County Council
