Kilruane MacDonaghs dethroned holders Clonoulty Rossmore with a great display in this County Senior Hurling Championship quarter final last Sunday but their win was marred by the dismissal of Niall O’Meara following an injury time incident.

If O’Meara’s dismissal cast a cloud over the win for Kilruane’s followers who suffered a double whammy when another of their stars Jerome Cahill went off injured in the 12th minute with a recurrance of the hamstring injury sustained in the North quarter final defeat to Kiladangan a month ago.

But back to the dismissals where O’Meara was sent off along with Clonoulty’s Timmy Hammersley following an altercation involving at least ten players on the end line which arose after Clonoulty’s Sean Maher’s was reckless with a one handed swing on a ground ball which accidently connected with the head of Craig Morgan. Morgan went to ground but play continued with Kilruane trying to clear their lines and eventually winning a free.

The incident lasted about a minute and following consolation with his umpires, referee Keith Delahunty sent O’Meara and Timmy Hammersley to the line with Maher also senty off for a second bookable offence.
