'Phenomenal interest' in eParking

The introduction of eParking in Tipperary's towns as attracted “phenomenal interest”, the county council reports.

Tipperary eParking was launched in June 2017 as a cashless parking system for the county. The system allows users to pay for parking via credit/debit card in all nine towns in Tipperary where paid parking operates.

Methods of payment include smartphone app, website or phone call. The nine towns in Tipperary that currently operate eParking are Nenagh, Thurles, Templemore, Roscrea, Clonmel, Cashel, Cahir, Tipperary Town and Carrick on Suir.

Benefits of the eParking service include the ability to process transactions remotely, meaning that users don’t need to display a ticket before leaving their car, or even return to the car to extend their parking – all of this can be controlled via the app on your smartphone. Users will no longer spend time scrambling for change to park their car; the eParking system is a cashless system and it also cuts down on paper use and potential litter in towns from disused pay and display tickets.
Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council Joe MacGrath said of the service that it is an additional, more convenient way of paying for parking.

“We would like people to try the eParking app for their parking needs in County Tipperary,” Mr MacGrath commented. “Users find it very straightforward to use the eParking app once registered with Tipperary eParking.”

To park up your vehicle, simply open the app on your phone and select the ‘Park' option. From the map select either the zone number, street name, or car park name of where you are parking, how long you want to park for, and pay from the pre-purchased credit on the Tipperary eParking App.

The eParking app also provides instant access to transactions, showing parking history and receipts for every parking event, and can send a text reminder when your parking time is almost up. Users also enjoy the new feature of the system where you can now park different vehicles, so if you are driving a different car, it can now be added to your mobile eParking app and selected as the car you wish to park, cutting down on the need to have different accounts for different vehicles.

Drivers who do not wish to download the app can still make a payment with a phone call or by logging on to the website, www.tipperaryeparking.ie.

To date there has been a phenomenal interest in this service provided by Tipperary County Council, with nearly 9,000 downloads of the app and an average of 300 new customers per month since its launch in 2017. Feedback to date has been very positive, with people saying they “couldn’t do without it”, it’s “environmentally friendly”, “it takes the hassle out of parking when you don’t have any change”, and also, “the user-friendly nature of the system”, are just some of the positive comments received from eParking app users.
