Drom progress after second half blitz
Drom & Inch 2-26
Portroe 1-12
Report: James Hayden in Dolla
Drom & Inch proved to hot for Portroe to handle as they comprehensively booked their berth in the quarter-final stages of the County Senior Hurling Championship on Saturday.
The Mid sides seventeen point winning margin was indicative of their dominance but not however, of Portroe’s battling performance. In fairness Port’ gave their all in the opening half and trailed by just two points at the break but were overwhelmed in the latter stages as their challenge noticeably petered out.
While the seventeen point winning margin would serve to have massaged Drom’s confidence going forward they still only finished as runner-up in a group which sees Kiladangan progress as group winners, and have work to do if they are to be considered as serious contenders in the race for Dan Breen.
Played in perfect conditions, Portroe were under the kosh in the opening minutes with Darren Gleeson in the Portroe goal forced to pull off a cracking save in order to deny David Butler an almost certain green flag in the opening minutes. Drom piled on early pressure as Portroe struggled to adjust with Séamus Callanan converting from play, and from a placed ball, before a sublime point from Joe Lupton fired the Mid men three clear.
