Well-known antique specialist George Stacpoole will attend the event.

Antiques valuation fundraiser at Lakeside Hotel

Ballina locals can discover if there are treasures in their attic and help a good cause, at a special valuation day in the Lakeside Hotel, Ballina, Killaloe on Sunday, August 25th.

The treasures or trash valuation day is aimed at helping Killaloe Ballina Historical Society raise funds to place information plaques on buildings of interest in the two villages. The event is part of Heritage Week 2019 and locals are being encouraged to bring along items of jewellery, furniture, fine art, porcelain, books, banknotes and coins.

Valuers and members of the Irish Antique Dealers Association will happily give their expert opinion on the item and its value for a modest fee of €5 to €10. Among the specialists on hand will be George Stacpoole, well-known for his appearances as the antiques expert on RTE’s ‘Today with Maura and Dáithí Show'.

A host of other specialists will also be available including jeweller John Weldon of Weldon Jewellery, Dublin, fine art and rare books expert Fonsie Mealy of Castlecomer and Clare based Eddie McMahon who specialises in coins and banknotes. Other experts at the fair include Michael Connell Antiques, Dublin; Eoin Ryan of Straffan Antiques, Robin O’Donnell of Hibernian Antique Fairs, Jim Noonan of Noonan’s Antiques, Limerick and of course George Stacpoole of Stacpoole Antiques, Adare.

The fundraiser is aimed at helping the local historical society place information plaques on interesting buildings in the twin villages of Ballina and Killaloe, as part of a self-guided historical walk for locals and visitors to the area
