Ivan Muldoon is returning to Nenagh Ormond as Head Coach for the forthcoming AIL season

Ormond welcome Rainey in season opener

There is sure to be an element of nostalgia among Nenagh Ormond supporters after the fixtures for the upcoming Energia All Ireland League Division 2A were released this week.

That is because Nenagh will begin on Saturday 5th October, at home to Rainey Old Boys from Derry, the club Ormond defeated 18-17 way back in 2005 to secure their first ever promotion to senior rugby.

A certain future Munster, Racing 92 and Ireland star Donnacha Ryan was in the second row for Nenagh Ormond on that famous day of 30th April 2005 as they became the first Tipperary club to leap to the senior grade, joined by Cashel and Clonmel in recent years.

After just about avoiding relegation in a difficult 2018/2019 campaign, Nenagh have gone back to what they know best with Ivan Muldoon returning as Head Coach under John Long who assumes the new title of Director of Rugby. Muldoon was coach in 2017 and 2018 when Nenagh just missed out on promotion with last years coach Dermot Dunne moving onto Coolmine in Dublin.
