Our Lady's Secondary School Templemore won the Fitzgerald Cup for the first time in five years when overcoming Nenagh CBS in a very competitive Tipperary Post Primary Schools Senior 'A' Hurling final on Thursday.
25 scores to 17 tells its own story as the Mid Tipperary school took command before half time when they responded to the first Nenagh goal to outscore their North rivals eight points to one to lead by five points at half time.
They withstood a strong Nenagh fightback in the third quarter to have the things well in hand, until added time when a Shane Gleeson goal from a 21 yard free made things interesting for a brief period until Ciaran McCormack completed his exhibition of free-taking with his ninth point to secure the title for Templemore.
With nine players from the current Tipperary minor panel on view between both schools, they was always expected to be a hugely competitive game and Our Lady's, who ended Thurles CBS' quest for a five-in-a-row in the semi-final, began in lively fashion with four points from play inside six minutes from Kenny Ryan (2), Darragh Doyle and Eddie Ryan.
