Battling Burgess refuse to yield to Loughmore

Burgess 2-21

Loughmore-Castleiney 2-21

A battling Burgess refused to succumb to a star-studded Loughmore/Castleiney to deservedly capture a share of the spoils in a well-contested County Senior Hurling Championship group 1 clash on Saturday evening.

Indeed Burgess, minus four of last year’s Seamus O’ Riain’s winning side, could have just as easily snatched victory were it not for a couple of late contentious refereeing decisions which ultimately cost them the opportunity to cause one of the biggest opening round upsets in recent years.

On paper, many predicted Loughmore to steamroll Burgess but from the get-go it was evident Burgess weren’t in the mood for capitulation and despite their frailties in defence they kept plugging away oblivious to undoubted potential of a Loughmore side which failed to reach the full peak of their powers on what proved a difficult evening for Noel Morris’ side.
