Record-breaking powerlifter Amy White with her trainer Graham Quirke of the Fitness Factory, Nenagh

Amy lifts her way into record books

A rising star of powerlifting in Ireland, Amy White of Nenagh had great cause for celebration recently when she smashed three national records.

Amy (20) was crowned Junior National Champion (60kg category) at the Amateur Irish Powerlifting Organisation (AIPO) championships in Limerick on March 24th last.

She lifted a whopping 122.5kg with the deadlift technique, 110kg squat and 57.5kg bench press. She already holds the squat record, having lifted some 117.5kg at a charity event in Limerick last November.

This was a truly remarkable achievement for Amy, a newcomer to competitive powerlifting. She trains with Graham Quirke (a national, European and world powerlifting champion) at the Fitness Factory at Tyone, Nenagh.

Daughter of Vincent and Bridget – and a sister of Paul White, who represented Ireland at the U23 Athletics Championships in Poland in 2017 – Amy was always into fitness. She too started out in athletics, a background that Graham said probably explains why she has excelled so quickly as a powerlifter.
