Public meeting sought on Roscrea nursing home

Calls were recently made for a public meeting on the future of the Dean Maxwell nursing home in Roscrea.

The issue was again discussed at a meeting of Roscrea Community Development Council, at which several speakers expressed concern that Roscrea has not received any funding for a new nursing home. Liam Shanahan said people throughout the town are concerned about the situation and don't understand why there should be any loss of services at the Dean Maxwell home.

Cllr Michael Smith (FF) said Bernard Gloster of the HSE should be contacted about the situation. He also wanted action from Tipperary's TDs, all five of whom have been silent on the Dean Maxwell issue, he said. A meeting with Health Minister Simon Harris would be required.

Cllr Eddie Moran (Ind) supported the call for a public meeting and said the five TDs should be invited to it. RCDC Secretary Steve Crofton said he would write to the local action committee first.
