Club gates increase leads to surplus

Tipperary County Board reported a surplus for the sixth successive year at its annual convention on Monday night.

The Board had €28,916 of income over expenditure for 2018, this was despite overall income falling by 7% to €3.73 million while expenditure also fell by 4.2% to €3.70 million.

Tipperary’s early exit from the inter-county championships allowed greater focus on club competitions in 2018 and led to an income increase from gate receipts of 11% to €527,895. 14% of that came from the sale of the increasingly popular club weekend passes, totalling €74,528, up from €65,363 the previous year.

However, Tipperary’s early championship exits in senior hurling and football were detrimental to commercial income which fell by almost €115,000 with many sponsorship agreements being performance based.

However, those early exits didn’t lead to savings in county teams expenses which exceeded the one million euro mark once again, increasing by €83,000 to €1.15 million, however county treasurer Michael Power ensured delegates that this is “something the board officers are constantly vigilant on.”
