Nenagh Players' 'The Field' opens tonight
The Nenagh Players this week present their production of John B Keane’s 'The Field' at Nenagh Arts Centre from Wednesday November 14th to Sunday November 18th at 8pm each night.
In Keane’s 'The Field', the widow, Maggie Butler (played by Grainne de Stafort), decides to sell the field that her neighbour, the Bull McCabe (Kevin Walshe), has been renting annually. Bull holds the village of Carraigthomond in fear of him and isn’t happy when he hears the news. He considers the field his by right and has no intention of paying the value of the property. He looks set to get his way until William Dee (Donal Bray) turns up and appears willing to offer a higher price.
The other cast members are Conal Daly (Leamy Flanagan), Noel Stanley (The Bird O'Donnell), Mike Ryan (Tadhg McCabe), Sean Butler (Dandy McCabe), Kevin Ryan (Mick Flanagan), Heather Broad (Mrs McCabe), Maggie Smith (Maimie Flanagan), Stuart Andrew (Fr Murphy), Kevin Whelan (Sergeant Leahy) and Seamus McCarthy (The Bishop).
The group are thrilled to have Irene O’Meara on board again this year. Irene has many years’ experience of acting and directing with the Nenagh Players and other groups.
Stage manager Ollie Moroney is doing a great job as usual, and with the assistance of his team - Willie Grace, Kevin Walshe, Noel Stanley, Kevin Ryan, Tony Brehon and Mike Ryan - he has built a great set for the play.
The Nenagh Players are delighted once again to be holding a Gala Night to raise funds for the Nenagh Special Summer Camp on our opening night this Wednesday, November 14th, at 8pm. There will be a cheese and wine reception in Rocky O'Sullivan's Bar on Kickham Street.

This year the Nenagh Players celebrate their 75th anniversary; their first play was Lennox Robinson’s 'Far Off Hill', which they did on November 24th, 25th and 26th 1943. To mark the occasion of their anniversary, some photos from Nenagh Players productions over the years will be on display in the Arts Centre during the play.
