Heffernan aiming to fully complete set of medals

Nenagh Eire Og captain Michael Heffernan is amongst a select group of hurlers in the county.

With 5 All Ireland winners medals, he has the full set when it comes to minor, under 21, intermediate and senior, a rare feat.

In 2006 & 2007 Heffernan was part of that special group of minor hurlers who won back to back All Ireland titles.

A call-up to the senior panel came in 2009 and he made his National Hurling League debut as a substitute against Limerick in 2010, scoring a point from play. He went on to make his one and only championship appearance on 3 July 2010 against Wexford in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Qualifiers at Semple Stadium.

While he won an All Ireland medal later that year, his greatest impact that year as at underage level as part of the all-conquering Tipperary under 21 team that won provincial and All Ireland titles. In the Munster final, Heffernan played at corner forward, scoring 1-3 for Tipperary as they defeated Clare at Semple Stadium, going onto score two points from play in the final in Galway.

While still part of the Tipp senior panel in 2012, Heffernan featured for the intermediates throughout that campaign and scored 1-4 from full forward in Tipperary’s All Ireland final win over Kilkenny at Semple Stadium, to complete the set of All Ireland medals.

Despite all that, Heffernan hasn’t a county adult club championship medal of any description to his name with Nenagh Eire Og, with 2 North Senior titles in 2009 & 2014, plus a minor ‘A’ divisional title in 2007 the key medals he has won in his career.
