Moycarkey/Borris’s journey to the 2018 County Minor ‘A’ Hurling final on Saturday was suddenly interrupted when a 54th minute Bryan McLoughney goal appeared to put the outcome of this game in doubt.

His strike reduced the margin to three and instilled the North side with belief, but the interruption was as sudden as it was brief. Moycarkey, as if triggering some kind of built-in response mechanism, swiftly put an end to their opponent’s hopes, clocking up 1-1 in the subsequent 90 seconds and setting up a County final meeting with Cappawhite Gaels.

The Mid champions bolted first with a point from Rhys Shelly, and only ever trailed on one occasion thereafter. Rhys Shelly finished with 1-1, but it was his cousin Kyle, operating as a free-floating forward, who stole the show, displaying a natural finesse in front of the posts which saw him end with 1-5, every one of them vital contributions.
