Clonoulty/Rossmore eased past the challenge of a disappointing Kiladangan side to book their spot in the County Senior Hurling Championship semi-finals and a mouth-watering tilt at Toomevara following a hard-fought semi-final encounter on Sunday afternoon.
The last occasion these two sides faced each other at the quarter-final stage was in 2013 with a replay needed in order to separate the teams. It was Kiladangan who emerged victorious on that occasion by a solitary goal but this time around Clonoulty exacted revenge on this year’s North runners-up with a deserved victory over a Kiladangan side who failed to fire on all cylinders.
Without the suspended Willie Connors and an Darragh Egan who was only introduced later in the game, Gary Byrne’s charges failed to break down a resolute Clonoulty/Rossmore side that were full value for their four point victory. Indeed, it was late in the game until Kiladangan really started to find their mojo but at this stage the damage was done and they proved unable to reel in John Devane’s charges.
