Nenagh Tennis Club going from strength to strength

If you were asked what is one of the biggest sports clubs in Nenagh is, many would be surprised to learn than it is Nenagh Lawn Tennis Club.

Between adults and juveniles, the club has almost 500 playing and social members who are active with one of the fastest growing clubs in the country.

Nenagh’s growth in recent years saw them rewarded with the hosting of the Munster Team Championship Finals at their impressive revamped home on the Limerick Road.

The addition of two new courts over the past twelve months brought the number to eight, which allowed them to host the biggest Tennis event in the province.

From 9am last Sunday morning til late evening, players from 17 clubs around Munster descended on Nenagh for the 54 matches, including twelve finals. This was off the back of hosting the clubs President’s Prize from Wednesday to Friday last where 104 people took part so it was a busy few days for all involved in the club, even for Captain Pauline Ryan who instead of watching the action had her sleeves rolled up to ensure the clubhouse was in full working order right through the day.

Having great facilities is one thing but having good players is another and Nenagh had five teams involved in the finals last Sunday, winning three of them.

Nenagh’s recent success on the court hasn’t come by chance with growing numbers leading to more talented players joining the club, firstly for the social element, then they competition.
