Harry and Mairéad O'Brien with their haul of trophies and medals

Ormond success at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann

There were celebrations aplenty in Nenagh recently as Ormond CCÉ welcomed home their musicians who performed so well at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda recently.

There was no doubting the star of the weekend, Mairéad O'Brien, who had a clean sweep winning the U12 fiddle and fiddle slow airs competition.

The following day Mairéad was joined by her brother Harry to claim third place in the U12 duet competition.

Not to be out-done, Jack McPartlin also flew the flag for Ormond as he claimed first place in O18 Uilleann Pipes Slow Airs as well as second place overall on Uilleann pipes, a great achievement adding to his already heavily-laden trophy cabinet. Maith an fear, Jack!

Siofra Thornton also enjoyed success in achieving second place with former Ormond musician Bláithín Kennedy and Keelan McGrath in their trio competition.

The Fleadh itself was generally regarded as a great success and it's certainly great to see some of the spoils coming back to North Tipperary. Well done to all and we'll look forward to a new year with lessons and bands beginning soon.
