Brian McGrath

Brian McGrath aiming to make his own way

It's never easy being the younger brother of an inter-county star.

So how must it be for Brian McGrath when he has not one, but two, of those calibre players ahead of him to be compared to.

I would get the odd text here and there,” he said from brothers Noel and John.

There’s a word in the ear. Then they give the advice but you have to learn for yourself.

They are good, hopefully I can push on and win something.”

Well the twenty year old hasn't done so badly in his fledgling career, winning an All Ireland minor medal in 2016 while was also part of the historic success for Our Lady's Secondary School Templemore in winning the Harty and Croke Cups in 2017.

Well the one difference he is to his two older brothers is that while they get scores at one end, he is trying to keep them out at the other as a defender.

A possible call-up to a senior panel under new management couldn't be further from his mind as he looks to take what is his final chance to win a medal at this grade before it changes to under 20 next year.

However, with Clare, Waterford and Limerick having used success at the under 21 grade to provide the platform for senior progression, he is fully aware of what a boost it would be Tipp in the future.

It is a good stepping stone for senior level. You want to win and it is a big stepping stone for the future,” he said.
